GFCI Outlets
GFCI outlets keep homes and families SAFE!
A GFCI outlet is an electrical outlet that protects against potentially deadly electric shocks. In addition to preventing electrocution, GFCI outlets can also reduce the risk of house fires caused by electrical problems, and reduce damage to appliances caused by faulty electrical circuits.
The classic example of a ground fault is the incident of when a hair dryer falls into a bathtub while someone is taking a bath. The hair dryer turns the water in the tub into part of the electrical circuit and electrocutes the individual in the bathtub. Not good!
GFCIs work by use ground fault circuit interrupters which monitor the flow of energy through a circuit, turning it off if an imbalance between “hot” and “neutral” poles occurs. Cantiague Electric can install GFCI outlets in your home to protect your family from harm as well as to reduce the risk of a house fire. You can also ask us about “whole house” GFCIs.
GFCI outlets are mandated by law in New York state for newly constructed homes for use in bathrooms, garages, kitchens, crawl spaces, unfinished basements, and outlets that will be outdoors. If your home is an older one, you may not have the protection you really need!
